Prickling, stinging, pins and needles
Phantom sensations – often none too pleasant - are generally a symptom of synaesthesia.
Some extremely unpleasant sensations can be experienced related to the sense of touch.
The person might feel as though ants were crawling in their skin, or that they were being stung or that they have a bad case of pins and needles.
The term used to describe this in medical circles is a Tactile hallucination, all the observations for this are grouped under this heading' But it is worth pointing out that these forms of sensation can be experienced during visions as well
