Some science behind the scenes

Feet

The feet and especially the soles of the feet are remarkably sensitive.  They are more sensitive than the hands and have over 70,000 nerve endings!

Within TCM, the six main meridians of Chinese acupuncture – stomach, spleen/pancreas, liver, gall bladder, kidney and bladder – all begin or end in the toes.  All these actually penetrate organs. 

It is worth mentioning that the meridians represented in the hands – heart, small intestine, circulation, triple burner, large intestine and lungs do not actually penetrate the organs.  In effect one can from the hands identify [and help remove] an imbalance along some meridians, but not identify the specific organ that it relates to or treat the organ.

In effect the feet contain numerous nerves that act like the communication channels for messages and are also the subject of a spirit based system that has an affect all over the body.

If you look at the section on the legs, you will be able to see that the nerves run up the entire body particularly the sciatic nerve.

Trigger points  are found on the soles of the feet, the top of the feet and along the inside and outside. They are also found as high as the ankle.

  • The head and neck – are mapped in the toes
  • The thoracic area – is mapped on the ball of the foot
  • The abdominal area is mapped on the arch
  • The pelvic area is to be found on the heel
  • The reproductive area – is mapped on the ankle
  • The spine is the inner foot
  • The outer body is mapped on the outer foot
  • Circulation and breasts are mapped on the tops of the feet

The feet are treated like a minimap of the whole body and all the organs and body parts are reflected on the feet in a similar arrangement as in the body. 

This means for example, that the heart, which is on the left side, is only to be found mapped on the left foot.  Where organs are paired such as the kidneys, adrenals and so on they are found in both feet.  The liver is found on the sole of the right foot only, as is the gall bladder.  The spleen found on the left side of the body has a reflex on the left foot.  Organs that are not paired such as the pancreas, however, may be found in both feet when they are centrally positioned, so the stomach reflexes are on both feet, as is the duodenum.

I will not go into a great deal of detail about every point on the foot.  As you can see each big toe , for example, contains reflex points for the pituitary gland, pineal gland, but also the hypothalamus, brain, temples, teeth, sinuses and so on. 

The outer ankle contains the ovaries/testes reflexes and the inner ankle contains reflexes of the uterus, prostate, vagina and penis.  The reflex points for the Fallopian tubes, lymph drainage area in the groin, vas deferens and seminal vesicles are found in a narrow band running below the outer ankle bone across the top of the foot to the inner ankle bone.  The kidney/bladder meridian is situated on both sides up the back of the Achilles tendon.

The testes and the ovaries share the same position on the foot;  reflexes are found on males in the same area as the ovaries in females midway between the outer ankle bone and the heel.
