A description of the experience

Mary Rose Barrington, Ian Stevenson and Zofia Weaver, A World in a Grain of Sand: The Clairvoyance of Stefan Ossowiecki,  2005.

Experiment series 2- September 1921 [experimenter: Geley]

New experiments in clairvoyance with M. l'Ingenieur Stefan Ossowiecki [The French tide has been left intact, as there is no way of conveying in English the respect implied by according Ossowiecki his title of Chartered Engineer]

I tendered to M. Ossowiecki a series of documents, all prepared in advance, in his absence. These documents consisted of sealed up envelopes each containing a paper prepared for clairvoyant reading. Each specimen was itself folded over and wrapped in several sheets of opaque paper. So it was impossible for anyone to know what was there by normal means.

In one case, in fact, the target paper was not in an envelope, but was encased in a thick lead pipe.

Among the documents submitted to M. Ossowiecki, some were prepared by me; the others had been given to me by friends of mine who were not acquainted with the clairvoyant, and I was not aware of their content.

The experiments took place in quite varied conditions. M. Ossowiecki, a very busy man, could not give me regular sessions. So I seized any opportunity to meet with him, whether at the house of mutual friends, or at a restaurant, or at a materialization seance, to offer him one of the sealed targets.

While an experiment was in train I never let the clairvoyant out of my sight.

He would take the envelope in his hand, concentrate his thoughts, walk up and down the room, then, after 5, or 10 or 15 minutes, he would usually tell me the exact contents.

He took longer to become aware of the paper contained in the lead pipe; he needed two sittings, and he had to make considerable efforts.

Out of 10 experiments I obtained-

  • Eight complete successes,
  • One incomplete success.
  • One failure.
