Out of the Body Experiences – Celia Green

The sensory modalities are reported in the following proportions by the subjects of single cases;

  • sight 93.2%
  • hearing 33.5%
  • touch 12.5%
  • temperature 10.2%
  • smell 4%
  • taste 2.8%
  • unlike any sensation 4.6%

The sensory modalities reported by subjects who have each had more than one OOB is as follows:

  • sight 92%
  • hearing 56.67%
  • touch 28%
  • temperature 21.34%
  • smell 18.67%
  • taste 8.67%
  • unlike any sensation 6.67%

In this connection, it should be noted that the physical bodies of [OOB] subjects may be apparently 'conscious' and with their eyes open, or may be 'unconscious' and have their eyes closed.

If only the former condition were reported, we might argue that the subject could be making use of the visual impressions received by his physical body and sub consciously manipulating them to construct an image of the same events from a different point of view.

This explanation can evidently not be used in the case of subjects who have their eyes closed.  As the reports of subjects with closed eyes do not differ perceptibly from those of subjects with open eyes, this suggests that the visual impressions of [OOB] subjects may be independent of the visual impressions being received by their physical bodies at the time
