Background

A description of the experience

Swedenborg – The Infinite

Eternity is time without end, or is in respect to time, the infinite we seek.  Time itself is no more that a peculiar revelation to modes proceeding from finite and substantial beings, like velocity in motion, namely, its successiveness; …. And denotes only the degrees and moments thereof; and thus is like to and almost identical with velocity and consequently is mechanical … for where there is no substance there is no velocity and where there is no velocity there is no time.

Where there is no substantial – a finite – there is no mode, motion or velocity, where there is no velocity, there are no degrees and moments and consequently no time.

The Infinite is therefore identical with the eternal and is, in truth, eternal in all time, time being only a peculiar relative of the finite sphere, where nothing past, future or successive can be predicated of the infinite in which all is present and eternal both with respect to the past and the future
