The next time I tried to induce the trance condition, I found that always before my inner eyes was the vision of a black crux ansata; and now my magic would not work, the trap-door would not open. The crux ansata could not be dispelled. When I closed my eyes and turned to the light, the symbol showed clear-cut, as though painted in black on the red field of my eyelids. With my eyes open, in a dim light, I could still see it as though it were projected in front of me. And try as I might I could no longer pass the ‘pineal door’.
