Premonitions: A leap in to the future – Herbert Greenhouse [1971]

“IN THREE DAYS YOU WILL BE DEAD”,

She was a young grandmother, only forty-nine. During Ascension Week in 1900, she dreamed one night that someone had appeared very early in the morning and knocked on the kitchen window. When she opened the window in the dream, the mailman handed her a letter and said she must read her newspaper very carefully that day. There was an announcement in the dream newspaper addressed to her: "Magdalene S-, get ready, in three days you will be dead."

When she woke up, it was with the conviction that she had only three days to live. She went into the garden and filled a basket with beans, added a piece of smoked ham, put on her Sunday dress and her white "death stockings" and went to see her daughter in town. When her daughter asked her why she had come so early, she told her about the dream. She was very cheerful about it. She gave the food to her daughter to be eaten on Ascension Day, the following Thursday, and helped the young woman clean up the house.

When Ascension Day came, she did not feel well when she woke up. She lay back and died of a heart attack.

This is one of many cases collected by Aniela Jaffe, a Jungian analyst, for her book Apparitions and Precognition from personal experiences sent in by residents of SwitzerIand. The young grandmother lived in Berne.
