Case No. 377 - Mrs G. W. Dew, of Ditton Hill, Surbiton, wrote the following to the Daily Sketch (Oct. 11, 1960):
My husband was seriously wounded with shrapnel on Nov. 4, 1941. One piece went right through the right leg, one was in his wrist, and one in his neck, close to the main artery. He regained consciousness and told the others how to bandage him up. He was taken down to the base hospital and clearly remembers floating about five feet up, looking down on the doctors and nurses as they operated on him.
