Background

A description of the experience

David Scott Rogo - Leaving the Body: A Complete Guide to Astral Projection

My own OBEs are usually heralded by what Monroe calls the vibrational state, although this state usually manifests itself spontaneously. I have little control over it and often have difficulty getting out of the body at this point. This is especially true if I cannot focus my concentration long enough on the feeling of being fully separated from my body. Sometimes I will even get halfway out, but remain partially stuck back in the physical! (Once I got stuck with my head and upper torso out of the body, but with the rest of me, from the waist down, fully coincident with my physical self. The next day I woke up with a slender line of pain all around my waist where the juncture had existed the night before.)

I found that the best way to leave the body at this point was a "lift-out" procedure, … After reading Journeys Out of the Body, … I tried experimenting with the roll-out procedure, but I never had any luck with it. I have, indeed, felt the curious sensation of actually rolling over and over within my body, but I have never been able actually to roll out of it.

The message here is simple. What holds true for one person will not necessarily hold true for everyone. Leaving the body is a very personal matter, and individual differences obviously play an important part in developing the skill.
