A description of the experience

The Art of Dying – Drs Peter and Elizabeth Fenwick

In early October 1982, Neil Handley had a premonitory dream in which his father (who at the time was 76 and had no health problems) told him he 'had had enough and would be leaving at the end of the month'. Neil thought he had had an odd dream, but thought no more about it. Then on the last day of October:

In the middle of the night I woke up to hear Mum screaming that Dad had taken ill, so I called the emergency doctor. Dad had suffered a major stroke and died the following evening. I was asleep at home when he died in the hospital and I felt an electric shock and saw a cord snapping which woke me up to find that my bedroom was lit up in what I can only describe as an electric blue light. Within a minute of waking and seeing this, the phone rang and a nurse told me my father had just died.
