A description of the experience
William Laird McKinley – The Last Voyage of the Karluk
All at once I became aware of something new and strange, a consciousness of a presence, a feeling that I was not alone. Feeling is not the word to describe it; there was nothing of the senses in it at all, only an awareness.
H G Wells wrote that at times in the night and in rare lonely moments ‘I experience a sort of communion of myself with something great that is not myself’.
Perhaps I was sharing a similar experience; I don’t know. It passed.
