Background
Tamsin was a daughter who had already died.
Possible explanation. The gerbil is dying. The little girl senses that the gerbil is dying, most children become very attached to their pets and form bridges with them.
Her composer then constructs an hallucination [hallucination because eyes open] using the template of Tamsin to construct a comforting image - pink is the colour of love. The slightly elongated image is normal for a spirit helper, as such there may have been an actual spirit helper 'behind' the image - this we do not know.
The intention is to comfort the little girl, she has lost her sister and is about to lose the gerbil, quite a burden of grief for a little girl. This is not fantasy, it is absolutely genuine, but it may well be her Higher spirit helping her.

When our younger daughter was 11 years old she was sitting beside the TV chatting to me about everyday things when she stopped in her tracks, looked startled and could see someone in the study through the door, which was ajar. Then she smiled and said, 'Oh it's Tamsin, she's floating toward the gerbil cage,' and described her as having 'no gravity'. This only seemed to last a moment and then the vision had gone.
I asked her to describe further what she had seen and she said that Tamsin had looked misty and floaty but was wearing a long, very light-pink dress and seemed taller than usual. Half an hour later, my husband came out of the bath and into the room and asked us if we had noticed that Tamsin's gerbil had died in its cage. It had been alive earlier in the day, but had not been well.
Putting the two events together, it seemed as if Tamsin had been there when her gerbil died as if to take its spirit with her. It sounds so completely bizarre but had I not seen my younger daughter's face as she was watching this, I might have doubted what she had described as Tamsin.
